As postwar housing stock is replaced in the city centre it was important to this cultivated couple that they respect Toronto’s past while indulging their preference for modern architecture. GH Building group was able to acquire Old Ontario brick and skilled artisans were engaged to construct all standing-seam metal work. In this manner historical details were successfully melded with modernism.
Zero lot line conditions necessitated shoring and limited space for staging deliveries posed construction demands. As it related to the interiors it was especially important to this family that there be no supporting posts on any of the floors thereby requiring clear spans in an all steel structure. Ultimately these challenges were overcome to the satisfaction of the homeowners and their neighbours.
